QUEENS – The renowned Queens bar and restaurant Grandstand closed its doors after 34 years amid financial struggles, the restaurant announced.
The Irish American pub on 85-35 Grand Ave shuttered for the last time on Sunday, according to a Facebook post where customers reminisced over their memories at the bar.
“This decision was made after careful review of our finances and general operations, as well as lengthy consideration of all options to remain open,” the post reads. “It has become impossible to continue operating.”

The pub was opened in 1988 by John Browne, who immigrated from Ireland, and died earlier this year.
“He built for himself a life, a business that served as a welcome refuge to many,” said Browne’s son, Michael Browne, during a eulogy in memory of his father in February.
