David Donegan, the correction officer, was shot after he tried to break up a dispute in Jamaica, Queens, prosecutors said.

QUEENS – Two men from Queens were indicted on attempted murder charges after shooting a correction officer in Jamaica, Queens, this summer, the Queens District Attorney's office said Monday.

A grand jury indicted Mark Gibbs, 23, and Sevaughn Green, 20, months after they allegedly fired multiple shots into a crowd on the street in an attempt to shoot an off-duty Correction officer in July, said the Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.

Gibbs and Green could spend up to 25 years in prison if convicted, according to prosecutors.

David Donegan, the correction officer, approached the two men at the intersection of 214th Place and Jamaica Avenue after spotting an altercation between Gibbs, Green, and another man, the district attorney said.

Donegan tried to break up the dispute, and Gibbs retrieved a weapon from his crossbody bag and started to shoot into the crowd, prosecutors said.

Donegan began to run away, and he was struck on the back of his calf. He later drew his firearms and shot Gibbs three times in the torso, according to Katz.

Gibbs dropped to the ground, and then Green used a firearm to shoot toward the crowd and Donegan. The correction officer returned fire and shot Green in the leg, prosecutors said.

Donegan was taken to a local Queens hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his calf, according to the district attorney.
