Uber, Lyft Riders Must Go To LaGuardia Pick Up Spot Under New Rules

The new parking lot is aimed at improving traffic conditions at the airport.

LAGUARDIA, QUEENS — Uber and Lyft passengers will have to walk ten minutes to a designated pick up spot at LaGuardia airport's Terminal B under a new program. The designated area was installed by the Port Authority in an effort to ease congestion.

The pilot program will be in place for a month and affect all for-hire vehicles other than yellow cabs, the Port Authority said.

Drivers will not be allowed to access Terminal B entrances for passenger pick-ups. The drop-off procedure will not change, authority officials said.

Those feeling drained after a long flight can take a shuttle bus to the pick-up spot, officials said.

The airport experienced extreme volumes of traffic during the snowstorm in March. Officials are expecting increased passenger traffic between Wednesday and Friday due to Spring Break and advise passengers to allow 90 minutes of extra travel time.
