Catching the disease early is key to care, with the five-year survival rate for cancer at 99 percent if the cancer remained localized.

One of the most alarming statistics about breast cancer is one in eight women will be diagnosed with the disease at some point in their lifetime. In fact, every two minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States.
Catching the disease early is key to care, with the five-year survival rate for cancer at 99 percent if the cancer remained localized. That's an encouraging stat. It's also why Peconic Bay Medical Center is holding a no cost breast cancer screening event on Nov. 1 at 1333 Roanoke Avenue in Riverhead.
