EAST HAMPTON, NY — A popular eatery in East Hampton has closed the doors to its retail location — Mary's Marvelous had its last day Sunday after 20 years of serving up mouthwatering sandwiches and pastry to a devoted clientele.

But it's not good-bye: Plans are underway for the eatery's new incarnation, owner Mary Schoenlein said.

Schoenlein wrote a message on social media to her longtime customers, thanking the community, team and husband Pat for years of support as her Newtown Lane location closed its doors; an Amagansett location closed in 2016.

"My heart is breaking a bit and it is so full when I realize the friends I have made on this journey," she wrote. "I am deeply grateful for what has been my daily experience of Mary's Marvelous. For 20 years, I have captained this ship and I am proud of the place my team and I have made here."

Schoenlein added that she was stepping into the future.

"And so, with open arms and an open heart, ready to continue to discover more of myself, I say farewell for now and I'll see you as I head into my future. So hold onto your forks; my creative team and I are imagining a new Mary's Marvelous. Something incredible is coming."

Schoenlein then invites her supporters to fill out a questionnaire so that they can be a part of shaping the business' future. She announced that a cookbook is "in the works" with other projects planned.

The questionnaire asked customers to weigh in on an array of possibilities, including cooking demos and classes, ecommerce, books, newsletters, and Mary's Marvelous products.

"The adventure continues," she said. She ended the message with the words "With much gratitude and enormous enthusiasm for all that’s ahead."
