Mattituck Jr.-Sr. High School has 18 varsity teams.

"This award reflects the commitment, discipline and sportsmanship our student-athletes demonstrate each day," Mattituck-Cutchogue Union Free School District Superintendent of Schools Shawn Petretti said. "We are incredibly proud of our coaches, athletes and families for making this recognition possible."

Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Greggory Wormuth said he credited the teachers, staff and students for the achievement — but that it is the students whose management of their priorities and commitments garners the status of excellence.

"It takes a lot of time management to make sure that both academic and athletic priorities are met, and the athletes do a fine job each year," Wormuth said. "It really is the culture of this district and something for which we are very proud."
