New Snow Total Estimates For Friday Storm
Dangerous travel conditions are possible during the Friday morning commute.
LONG ISLAND, NY — Long Islanders were out and about Wednesday enjoying record high temperatures, but snow and ice are on the way.
A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the island with 1-2 inches of snow expected Friday, the National Weather Service says. It's not much, but the timing of the snow isn't ideal.
"A wintry mix of snow and sleet is expected to develop Thursday night into early Friday morning," the hazardous weather outlook says. "The precipitation then changes to freezing rain and rain after day break Friday morning. Impacts to the Friday morning commute are possible."

A winter weather advisory could be issued "largely due to some light icing before the changeover to plain rain," the National Weather Service says.
By Friday afternoon, the system moves away from the area with any lingering precipitation ending from west to east. The weekend should be dry with seasonal temperatures, a far cry from the 68-degree daily record high at Long Island MacArthur Airport Wednesday.
