RIVERHEAD, NY — Students at the Pulaski Street Intermediate School in Riverhead made lifetime memories Thursday as members of the New York Islanders paid a visit.

The New York Islanders visited the school in honor of P.S. I Love You Day. Members of the Islanders hockey team, accompanied by their mascot Sparky, spoke to students about the importance of making smart decisions, eating healthy, staying active and treating each other with compassion, the Riverhead Central School District said.
The interactive assembly included games and activities designed to encourage students to be confident, kind and successful, the district said.

According to its website, P.S. I Love You Day is a registered non-profit organization in New York State, dedicated to eradicating the stigma around mental health.
"Our mission is to instill hope for those affected by mental illness, fostering a supportive environment and a community where everyone feels welcomed, loved, and supported. Join us every second Friday of February by wearing purple for our annual celebration, P.S. I Love You Day."
The organization is dedicated to bullying and suicide prevention, and to raising awareness to help young people struggling.
This year, the 15th Annual P.S. I Love You Day falls on February 14, Valentine's Day, with those participating donning purple to mark the event.
