"Angelina and Madison are two of the most committed athletes I have ever coached," said Riverhead High School girls golf head coach Steve Failla. "Qualifying for the individual state championship in golf is one of the most challenging accomplishments in New York State athletics. Riverhead has never had a girl qualify until this year; to have two student-athletes do so is a testament to their hard work and ability to push each other to succeed."

Angelina and Madison are two of nine student-athletes from Suffolk County to qualify for the state tournament, as only nine golfers qualify from each New York county, the district said.

The championship will be held at Wild Wood Country Club in Rush, NY from June 7 to 9.
In addition, during that same weekend, Riverhead High School junior Colby Baran will compete in the boys state championship at Mill Creek Golf Club in Churchville, NY
In her freshman season, Madison Marshak averaged six strokes above par. She tallied a remarkable 11-1 record in head-to-head league play.
Angelina Gust averaged seven strokes above par and achieved an impressive 10-1-1 record in league play, the district said.
In addition to her success on the golf course, Angelina is academically ranked 16th in the Class of 2025 at Riverhead High School. Following graduation, she will attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University — commonly known as Virginia Tech — where she plans to major in computational modeling and data analytics and compete on the club golf team.
