Riverhead's Long Island Sound Beaches Closed Friday, Will Reopen Saturday
The beaches were closed due to the impacts of Hurricane Erin.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Riverhead's beaches on the Long Island Sound have been closed due to rough surf and hazardous conditions from Hurricane Erin.
After consultation with Riverhead Police Chief Ed Frost and Recreation Superintendent Ray Coyne, Riverhead Town Supervisor Tim Hubbard said all beach operations at Reeves Beach, Wading River Beach, and Iron Pier Beach would be closed Friday, August 22.
The closure, which includes bathrooms, was enacted for the safety of all residents, beach attendants, and lifeguards, he said.
