Wires, Debris In Roadways Lead To Closures

Here's what roads to avoid this morning after high winds brought wires, debris down.

RIVERHEAD, NY — High winds with gusts of up to 60 miles per hour have brought debris and wires down along local roadways, sparking closures.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the following roads are closed due to debris or wires in the roadway:

Penny's Road
Pier Avenue North of Smugglers Path

  • Residents on Sound Shore Road should head east to Pier Avenue

Remsen Road by North Wading River Road

  • Residents living off Remsen Road should head towards North Country Road

The high wind warning, wind winds of 25 to 40 miles per hour and gusts up to 60 miles per hour, remains in effect until about 10 a.m. Friday.
