AAA Honors Irvington For Traffic Safety
The AAA said 2020 was a difficult year to maintain many of the traditional traffic safety efforts but Irvington was able to.

IRVINGTON, NY — The village of Irvington won a Gold Award for efforts during 2020 in the AAA Northeast's Community Traffic Safety Awards Program.
The program recognizes communities that make outstanding efforts to make the region's roads safer for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians, according to John Corlett, AAA's director of public and government affairs.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, 2020 was a difficult year to maintain many of the traditional traffic safety efforts typically conducted.

However, Corlett said, Irvington was cited for continuing and adjusting its many traffic safety efforts for 2020, including completing the pilot Main Street bump-out initiative to promote safer crossings for pedestrians.
The village was also recognized for having 55 consecutive years with zero pedestrian fatalities.

Corlett said Irvington continued conducting child car seat inspections and installations, seat belt enforcement checkpoints and participated in a wide variety of enforcement programs such as Click It or Ticket and Stop DWI.
"All of these efforts have led to improved traffic safety for all," he said.
