Police: Stabbing, Slashing at College Party in Dobbs Ferry

A college party that involved underage drinking ended with two being stabbed and another being arrested on felony assault charges.

The incident occurred on Dec. 15 between 1:40 a.m. and 2:37 a.m. during a house party in a Main Street apartment that was rented out by female students who attend Mercy College.

According to police, they were notified by Dobbs Ferry Hospital notified that a 19-year-old Yorktown Heights resident who attends Mercy College came in with multiple stab wounds. The 19-year-old was allegedly stabbed with a knife after he got into an altercation with two males who were trying to get into the party. 

The victim apparently didn’t realize he had been stabbed until a friend mention the stain, which was blood, on his shirt. He then reportedly began to feel a shortness of breath. 

His friends took him to Dobbs Ferry Hospital and then returned to the party when they got word that the two who tried to get into the party earlier had returned. During a second altercation with the two party crashers—a second victim, a 20-year-old Mercy College student — was hit with a large tree branch in the jaw and taken to the hospital by ambulance.

A third victim, a 19-year-old Mercy student from Medford, NY, sustained superficial knife wounds and refused medical attention. Police reviewed videotapes from police surveillance cameras in the area, which subsequently lead to the arrest of Joseph Christian.

The 25-year-old Dobbs Ferry resident was charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, a class D felony, for allegedly stabbing the two 19-year-olds. He was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor, for allegedly having the knife, which was found in a rear parking lot.  

Christian was arraigned and was sent to Westchester County Jail, as he could not make $5,000 bail. Police are still investigating the matter and are looking for a second suspect who allegedly assaulted the 20-year-old.
