Hastings Man Has 16 Firearms, 86 High-Capacity Magazines: Police

Prosecutors said he did not have a permit to legally purchase or possess the weapons, which included eight assault weapons.

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, NY — A Hastings man was arrested after being accused of illegally having more than a dozen guns and more than 80 high-capacity magazines in his home.

Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah said Jianqiao Lu, 29, of Hastings, was arraigned on a 113-count felony indictment by a Westchester County grand jury Tuesday.

  • First-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (related to having three or more firearms)
  • Eight counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (related to possession of assault weapons)
  • 16 counts of criminal possession of a firearm
  • 86 counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (related to possession of large capacity ammunition feeding devices)

Prosecutors said, around 2:20 p.m Oct. 25, Lu had 16 guns, including eight assault weapons, and 86 high-capacity magazines at his residence in Hastings.

He did not have a permit to legally purchase or possess the firearms, police said.

The Hastings-on-Hudson Police Department arrested Lu Oct. 25.

The investigation was conducted jointly by the New York City Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Criminal investigator of the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation following the arrest.
