Irvington Students Evacuated as Clearwater Runs Aground

Irvington fifth graders and others aboard the Sloop Clearwater when it stuck in the mud off Yonkers Monday weren't injured.

Irvington Middle School students thought they would spend the day sailing on the Hudson River, but ended up stuck in the mud.

The school’s fifth graders were enjoying a ride on the Sloop Clearwater in Yonkers Monday afternoon when the boat, owned by Pete Seeger’s Clearwater organization, ran aground near a city pier, Newsday reports.

The students were evacuated off the 106-foot-long boat by Westchester County Police who were not aware of any injuries. Click here for Newsday's photo gallery.
