Officials ID Man Hit And Killed On I-87 In Thanksgiving Day Tragedy

He exited his car after it broke down in the left lane, and was then hit by another car that swerved to avoid his car.

YONKERS, NY — The victim in a Thanksgiving traffic accident in Westchester has been identified by police.

New York State Police announced on Tuesday that they responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Thanksgiving Day, on I-87 in Yonkers.

At 6:23 p.m., 43-year-old Christopher A. Colom, of Tilson, was driving a 2011 Honda Accord on I-87 and broke down in the left lane.

When he exited the vehicle, he was hit by a northbound 2002 Lexus ES 300 driven by 48-year-old Wilmer G. Figueroa, of Danbury, Connecticut, who in an attempt to avoid the Accord, instead entered the median shoulder where Colom was.

Once on the scene, the Yonkers Fire Department and Empress EMS paramedics began life-saving techniques, but ultimately pronounced him deceased.
