Race To Find Woman Walking On Thruway Ends In Tragedy
Soon after reports of a pedestrian on I-87 in Yonkers, state police responded to the scene where she had been struck and killed.

YONKERS, NY — A woman walking on a busy Westchester highway was struck and killed overnight, according to police.
State police were notified of a person walking against traffic in the southbound lanes of the New York State Thruway, between Exits 6A and 6, in the city of Yonkers. Around 3:43 a.m., while troopers were trying to locate the pedestrian, it was reported that she had been struck by a vehicle.
Troopers and emergency medical personnel located the woman lying in the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation has determined that the deceased was walking northbound in the southbound lanes when she was struck by a vehicle in the left lane, according to state police.
Authorities said the identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.

No tickets have been issued, and the investigation is ongoing, according to NYSP.
