Students Back to School Monday After Sandy

• Correction: Hastings-on-Hudson Schools will hae a full day of school on Tuesday, Nov. 6

All of the Rivertowns’ students will head back to school Monday, after Superstorm Sandy kept them out of classrooms for an entire week. 

Electricity has been restored to all of the school districts’ schools as of 7:30 p.m. Sunday night, except for Hillside Elementary. Officials expect power to be restored to the school before Monday morning, though the building would not have working phones or Internet access. Those that need to contact Hillside Elementary by phone should call (914) 478-2900. 

Since many roads in Hastings-on-Hudson are still blocked by trees or low hanging wires, bus schedules could be altered. Hillside parents should expect a phone call advising of the alternate bus pick-up locations. The high school will keep its library open until 8 p.m. for students who need a warm, well-lit place to do homework with Internet access. 

Parent teacher conferences have been canceled in Dobbs Ferry and Hastings-on-Hudson (also canceled on Nov. 13) on Tuesday. Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson and Irvington will hold a full day of classes on Election Day.

In Irvington, students are being asked to bring lunch from home (no glass containers) since the district hasn’t gotten a food delivery since the storm, however a few items will be available in the cafeteria. 

Irvington also asks its students to use public transportation to avoid congesting the roadways, and that buses may be delayed due to storm debris and gas station waiting lines.
