An argument turned tragic when, according to police, the teenager drew a .45 caliber firearm and fired a single round.

"Mr. Gordillo's death was completely avoidable," Cacace said. "The defendant's decision to introduce a gun into this situation fundamentally altered the course of their lives. Now, he will be held accountable for his reckless conduct."
On Feb. 26, 2024, around 4:45 a.m., Gordillo had driven Ramos-Cervantes home after a night out drinking. Once he arrived home, Ramos-Cervantes briefly entered his apartment and returned to the car with a .45 caliber pistol.
Ramos-Cervantes then wrapped his arm around Gordillo and shot him in the head, according to prosecutors.
Gordillo was pronounced dead at the scene.
The teen initially told police that Gordillo had died by suicide, but later claimed the gun had been fired by accident.
The investigation was conducted by the Yonkers Police Department.
DA Cacace thanked the Westchester County Department of Labs and Research's Division of Forensic Sciences and the Westchester County Police Department's Ballistics Unit for their assistance with this case.
The case was prosecuted by Bureau Chief Jonathan Strongin and Assistant District Attorney Leigh Wellington.
