Villages Awarded for Bike and Pedestrian Safety

Irvington and Dobbs Ferry received American Automobile Association's (AAA) New York's Community Traffic Safety Gold Awards.

Irvington and Dobbs Ferry came out on top in New York when it came to traffic safety in 2012 according the American Automobile Association (AAA) New York. 

AAA New York—which offers automotive, travel and financial services to more than 1.6 million of its New York members—recently granted the villages with a Gold Award for it Community Traffic Safety Awards program. 

"We are pleased to honor our award winning communities that are doing such vital work to ensure that drivers, pedestrians and cyclists can all reach their destinations safely," said AAA's Director of Traffic Safety John Corlett.

The villages were noted for their bicycle safety and seat belt enforcement programs. Irvington also won a Pedestrian Safety Commendation for going 46 years without a pedestrian fatality. 

The two river villages and other award winners were honored during a ceremony on Oct. 3 at The Carltun in East Meadow, where 60 awards were given out.
