Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: 'Run Your Y' 5K Run And Walk
Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.
This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.
Volunteers to Move Books
The Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden is moving its archive books and binders from the attic of the main house to a nearby room. A few hardy volunteers are needed to help—peeking at the old photos will be allowed! Please note the spaces and materials are very dusty and there is some rodent debris in the area. Volunteers will be supplied with gloves and N95 masks, but those with respiratory or mobility problems might have difficulty.
Date: 5/5 from 1-4:30 p.m.
Organization: Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden
Location: North Salem

Solutions Not Suspensions Advocacy Day
The Solutions Not Suspensions Act aims to implement age-appropriate, circumstance-informed disciplinary practices in schools that hold students accountable while also offering opportunities for restoration. Passing this policy would help in the effort to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline. Volunteers are asked to join Westchester Children's Association for a trip to Albany to demonstrate civic advocacy. The day will include a rally and individual meetings with elected officials. Volunteers can catch a ride in a rented bus, and lunch will be provided. Volunteers must be 18+.
Date: 5/13 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; register before 5/6 training
Organization: Westchester Children's Association
Location: White Plains/Albany
