The man is scheduled to appear in court this week, court officials say.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. — A Freeport man was arrested and faces a felony charge after police say he violently assaulted a Mercy Hospital security officer.

According to Nassau County police, 28-year-old Harding Place resident Eduard Lopez attacked the security officer in the early hours of Oct. 16, at which point the security officer went into cardiac arrest. The security officer was hospitalized Thursday morning in critical condition, and Lopez was charged with second-degree assault, police said.

A Nassau County court official confirmed Monday that Lopez is scheduled to appear Tuesday morning in front of Judge Paradiso in Mineola. Rockville Centre Police Department could not provide updates on the identity or condition of the officer as of Monday morning.
