Gun Violence Drops Significantly Across Long Island Since 2021: Hochul
Through the first four months of 2024, there were 11 incidents of gun violence, compared to 26 for the same time frame last year.
ALBANY, NY — Gun violence is down significantly across New York, including on Long Island, Gov. Hochul announced on Friday.
Incidents in Nassau and Suffolk counties have steadily dropped. There were 136 incidents in 2021, 96 in 2022 and 72 last year. Overall, that's a 47 percent drop in gun violence, the governor's office said.
"We enacted the toughest gun-safety measures in the country and now we are seeing results: historic lows in gun violence across New York," Hochul said. "Public safety is my number one priority, and I will continue fighting to create meaningful results and keep New Yorkers safe."

The numbers are even better this year on Long Island. Through the first four months of 2024, there were 11 incidents of gun violence, compared to 26 for the same time frame last year.
This success follows the governor’s $347 million investment in comprehensive efforts to reduce and prevent gun violence and her leadership to convene an Interstate Task Force on Illegal Guns, which has led to more than 3,302 illegal guns seized since the start of 2022.
