James Howard Selected for Grand Slam Challenge
Will represent South Side in annual high school baseball all-star game.
South Side senior James Howard has been selected to play in this year's RTC Rawlings Grand Slam Challenge.
The game, which pins the best in Suffolk against the top players in Nassau, will take place at Farmingdale State College Friday, June 10 at 7 p.m.
The senior captain/cleanup hitter for the Cyclones finished tied for the team lead in batting average (.410), led the team in RBIs (31), was second in doubles (5), runs scored (25) and tied for the team lead with 32 hits. Howard reached base in more than 50 percent of his plate appearances and only struck out 10 times during the season.

Suffolk County, which will be coached by Patchogue-Medford's Anthony Frascogna, leads the all-time series, 5-1. The Nassau County team will be coached by East Meadow's Ken Sicoli.
Some of the other top Nassau County players are Division's Sean Abbate and John Cruz, Garden City's John Cauchi, Island Trees Mike Manganiello and Kevin Monahan and Wantagh's Ryan Sliwak.
