Kellenberg Juniors Earn Financial Literacy Certifications
254 students earned the financial certification in the first trimester of the current school year, district officials announced.
UNIONDALE, NY. — 254 students at Uniondale’s Kellenberg Memorial High School earned financial literacy certifications through the W!se Financial Literacy Certification Program during the school year’s first trimester, district officials announced.
The W!se program is in its third year at Kellenberg, teaching juniors how to handle financial concepts like insurance, investing, pathways to homeownership and how to read a paycheck. The course takes six weeks to complete before the students take a standardized test for the chance to earn a Certified Financially Literate credential. 465 students earned the certification last year, while 501 earned it in the 2023-24 school year. The course is taught by Kellenberg staff Greta Hartung and Erica Healy, who graduated from Kellenberg in 2017 and 2012, respectively. According to district officials, Hartung and Healy’s “guidance and support help ensure students not only succeed on the exam, but also gain confidence in managing their financial futures.”
Among the students earning certifications in this round of testing were 16 Rockville Centre residents and 9 Oceanside residents, listed below.
