Nassau Man Violently Resisted Arrest, Injured Officer: Police

Police say they also recovered a defaced handgun when the man was arrested.

LAKEVIEW, NY — A Nassau County man was arrested Saturday after police say he violently resisted and injured an officer during his apprehension.

According to police, officers responded to a 911 call at 4:50 p.m. on Sept. 24 for a disturbance at a home in Lakeview. A 40-year-old woman said she was in an argument with a man, who was at her home along with several other men, to fight the woman's 17-year-old child. One of the men pointed a black handgun at her before leaving, police said.

Police say the officers found the man — Xavier Kewley, 19, of Lakeview — at Harold Walker Memorial Park. Police say he ignored the officer's commands an ran off. After a chase, the officers found him and tried to place him under arrest, police said. Kewley resisted violently, police said, and injured an officer during his arrest.
