Police: RVC Teen Killed in DWI Accident

Steve Barrere, 19, was arrested for DWI and charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter.

A 19-year-old Rockville Centre resident was killed early Thursday morning after the driver of the car he was a passenger in lost control and slammed into a tree, police said.

According to detectives, Steven Barrere, 19, was driving his 2000 Acura Integra southbound on Brower Avenue around 2:20 a.m. when he lost control and hit a tree on the corner of Brower and Oxford Place. His passenger, Gerardo Alvarez-Garcia, 19, of Rockville Centre, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Barrere was driving drunk.

Barrere was brought to South Nassau Communities Hospital with multiple injuries and was is in serious condition. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Barrere was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and DWI.
