RVC Impacted by Redistricting Vote
The village will now be in District 6 rather than 5.
Tuesday's to approve the redistricting in Nassau County will move nearly all of Rockville Centre from District 5 into District 6, which is represented by Legis. Francis Becker, R-Lynbrook.
Nassau Republicans pushed forward with their plan to redistrict the county, passing an amended map that Democrats say is clear gerrymandering into law, 10-8. District 5, where the village was for the past eight years, is represented by Legis. Joseph Scannell, D-Baldwin.
Most of Rockville Centre, from as far north of Sunrise Highway as Atkinson Road to as south as Woodlands Avenue, will now be in District 6. The eastern part of RVC, like Irving Place, Voorhis Avenue, Hampshire and Whitehall roads, is the only portion of the village that will stay in District 5.

The new district lines puts nearly all of RVC, Lynbrook and a portion of Baldwin and Freeport into District 6, while District 5 will now be comprised of portions of Baldwin, Freeport, Bellmore, Merrick and a slice of Rockville Centre.
Scannell said he does not think the new district lines are here to stay.

"I do not believe that RVC or any other community in my district will be affected by the vote on redistricting," he said. "I have total confidence that the existing lines will prevail in court and I will continue to work and serve my district as it has been drawn for the last eight years."
Republicans had tabled the proposed redistricting last week after a New York State Supreme Court judge issued a temporary restraining order on the process, but an appeals court judge stayed the order, allowing the legislature to move forward.
