Verizon Employee Scuffled With Robber at Oceanside Store: Police

A Queens man was found with burglary tools after leaving the store without paying for merchandise, Nassau police say.

OCEANSIDE, NY — A man was arrested for robbery after getting into a scuffle with a store employee in Oceanside on Saturday, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Police were called to Verizon Wireless, at 3337 Long Beach Rd., where a male employee told them that he observed a man take merchandise from the shelves and leave the store without paying at about 5:37 on Nov. 27.

The employee followed the man and attempted to retrieve the stolen merchandise from him, but the suspect pushed him and he fell to the ground, the employee told police. The employee was able to subdue and detain the suspect without injury.

When officers arrived at the scene, they arrested Mamady Cisse, 20, of Jamaica, Queens, and charged him with third-degree robbery, petit larceny and possession of burglary tools.

Cisse was scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
