61-Year-Old Choked In Violent Love Triangle Home Invasion: Rye Police

The victim told police that the intruder, who is his ex-girlfriend's current boyfriend, kept repeating, "Where is she?" during the attack.

CITY OF RYE, NY — A violent home invasion has led to the arrest of a Rye Brook man, according to police in Rye.

The City of Rye Police Department says that on Sunday, around 11:30 p.m., they received a report from a 61-year-old Elizabeth Street resident. The man told police he was asleep in bed when he heard someone enter his home.

The homeowner said that he then got out of bed and walked toward the noise. Near the threshold of the living room, he encountered an intruder. The victim told authorities the trespasser was his ex-girlfriend's current boyfriend, although he didn't remember the new boyfriend's name.

The Rye resident told police that the intruder then grabbed him the neck with both hands and began choking him, while repeatedly asking, "Where is she?"

The victim told police he was able to free himself and the suspect fled the home on foot.

City of Rye police canvassed the area but did not find the suspect.

After the Detective Division launched an investigation, they identified the suspect as 30-year-old Guillermo Martinez-Echeverria, of Rye Brook.

When the victim was shown a photo array, he positively identified Martinez-Echeverria as the person who entered his home and attacked him.

Martinez-Echeverria was arrested on Tuesday afternoon by Rye detectives, and charged with felony third-degree burglary, misdemeanor criminal obstruction of breathing, and harassment.

Police say that an order of protection was issued at arraignment and Martinez-Echeverria was released on his own recognizance, and is scheduled to return back to court on Dec. 9.
