Candidate Debates; Rye Parking Permits

Five things you need to know today, Oct. 15.

1. Oct. 31 Deadline for Parking Permit Renewal

From the City of Rye: There are three weeks left to renew your commuter parking permit or waitlist.  Renewals are online by credit card only. The deadline is Wednesday, October 31st at 5:00 p.m.   The online program will be shut down at that time.  There will be no exceptions.

If you have not yet renewed, go to the City website and look under the City News Section for 2013 Commuter Permit and Waitlist renewal.

2. Blind Brook BOE Meets Tonight

From Blind Brook School District: There will be a public meeting of the Board of Education on Monday, October 15th at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Faculty Room.  It is expected that the Board will vote to go into executive session to discuss administrator evaluations and will return to public session in the Monroe E. Haas Instructional Media Center at 8:00 p.m.

3. Lee Woodruff At Rye Free Reading Room

Local author Lee Woodruff will hold a reading at the Rye Reading Room tonight at 7 p.m.

From Rye Reading Room: In her fiction debut, Those We Love Most, beloved writer and speaker Lee Woodruff offers an intimate and moving novel that explores the ways in which four lives are broken and made whole again after a shattering tragedy.

Co-author with her husband, Bob Woodruff, of the number one New York Times bestseller In an Instant and the author of the essay collection Perfectly Imperfect.  Lee Woodruff has now become a major new voice in contemporary fiction.  In addition, she is a contributing editor to CBS This Morning, the writer of many articles on family and parenting, and co-founder with her husband of the Bob Woodruff Foundation to assist wounded service members and their families.  The Woodruffs have four children and live in Rye.

5. League of Women Voters Holds Debate Tonight

League of Women Voters of Rye, Rye Brook & Port Chester and Harrison to sponsor two Candidates' Forums featuring

Candidates for New York State Senator, 37th District: Bob Cohen and George Latimer and Candidates for New York State Assembly, 91st District: Steve Otis and Bill Villanova on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Rye Middle School, Multipurpose Room, 3 Parsons St., Rye.

Candidates for Congress, 17th District: Joe Carvin, Nita Lowey and Frank Morganthaler; Candidates for New York State Assembly, 93rd District: David Buchwald and Robert Castelli on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012 from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. in the Harrison Public Library, 2 Bruce Avenue, Harrison.
