Public Hearings: City Budget and Proposal to Override State Tax Cap

Two public hearings will be held Dec. 5.

The Rye City Council will hold two public hearings on Wed., Dec. 5 on the proposed city budget for 2013 and on a proposal to adopt a local law to override the state mandated two percent property tax cap.Β 

Here is the city's announcement about the public hearing on the proposed $45 million 2013 budget:

A public hearing will be held by the Council ofΒ the City of Rye on Wednesday, the 5th day of December, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. at City Hall,Β 1051 Boston Post Road, in said City, on the Proposed Budgets of the General Fund,Β Cable TV Special Revenue Fund, K.T. Woods Permanent Fund, Debt Service Fund,Β Capital Projects Fund, Boat Basin Enterprise Fund, Golf Club Enterprise Fund, RiskΒ Retention Internal Service Fund, and Building and Vehicle Maintenance Internal ServiceΒ Fund of the City of Rye for the ensuing fiscal year, January 1, 2013 through DecemberΒ 31, 2013, and at such time and place any person interested in said Proposed Budgets willΒ be given an opportunity to provide written and oral comments on any and all of theΒ aforementioned budgets.

Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held by the CityΒ Council of the City of Rye on the 5th day of December, 2012 at 8:00 P.M.Β at City Hall, Boston Post Road, in said City, at which interested personsΒ will be afforded an opportunity to be heard concerning a proposed localΒ law to override the State enacted tax levy limitation.Β Copies of said local law may be obtained from the office of the City Clerk.Β 

This public hearing is a formality and was not proposed by the city council because they intend to override the tax cap, city manager Scott Pickup said. The council's current proposed budget keeps taxes below the state mandated level.Β
