• Unattended Candle Sparks Fire in Rye Home, Destroying Christmas Gifts (talkofthesound.com) — A residential fire sparked by an unattended candle caused heavy smoke damage and ruined Christmas gifts at a home on Douglas Circle in Rye, but working alarms and a fast response kept the blaze from spreading. City of Rye firefighters, assisted by neighboring departments and Rye police, quickly knocked down the flames, and no injuries were reported. Officials urge residents to use candles carefully and maintain smoke detectors.
   

• Norwalk man charged with driving while impaired by drugs, had 27 nitrous oxide canisters: NY police (nhregister.com) — Rye police say they arrested a 45-year-old Norwalk man who was found unresponsive behind the wheel and later charged with driving while impaired by drugs after officers recovered 27 nitrous oxide canisters from his car. The City of Rye Police Department reports he failed field sobriety tests and refused a chemical test. He’s due in Rye court on January 6.
   

• Rye Resident and Volunteer Dies at 93 (ryerecord.com) — Rye residents are mourning the passing of longtime volunteer and resident Barbara Hare Ward, who died peacefully in town at age 93. Her life of service, from teaching English to fundraising for Ukraine, touched many, and a memorial service will be held in Rye in the new year.
