Rye Brook Elects New Mayor, Trustees

In this year’s uncontested election just over 150 residents turned out to vote for the Rye Brook candidates, according to the Westchester County Board of Elections unofficial results. 

Residents elected current Trustee Paul Rosenberg as mayor and Jeffrey Rednick and Jason Klein as trustees. Rosenberg won 156 votes; Rednick, 161 votes and Klein, 156 votes. Each public official will serve a three-year term, beginning on April 1, 2013 and ending on March 31, 2016. This is the first year the county Board of Elections has run the village’s elections, Administrator Chris Bradbury said, a decision made to save the village money.  

Mayor Joan Feinstein and Trustee Toby Marrow did not run for re-election this year. Klein will fill Marrow's trustee seat and Rednick will embark on his second three-year term on the board.  

"Even though I knew I was uncontested, it is still daunting, but I am very excited," Rosenberg said after all the unofficial results were in tonight. "We have a lot to do and it is sad to see Joan go, but I am energized about it." 

Rosenberg also mentioned that he was very disappointed with the voter turn out this year. Rye Brook has about 6,900 citizens over the age of 18 and eligible to vote and only about 150 showed up at the polls. 

Rosenberg served as a Trustee from 2003-2004 and then again from 2005 to the present. He played a key role in creating the King Street Athletic Field Complex and negotiating the cable television franchise with Verizon, according to Rye Brook Together (RBT). Rosenberg works as an Executive Director at JP Morgan. He has served on various village committees and task forces.

Rosenberg has said he is focused on several important issues including the comprehensive plan, flood control and keeping village taxes as low as possible.

 Rednick, a Rye Brook native, is seeking his second three-year term as a village trustee. He has served on the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Village Traffic Commission and as the Village Prosecutor. Rednick has noted he wants to keep a close watch on airport expansion and want to continue to work on the affordable housing settlement.

Jason Klein was also raised in Rye Brook and moved back to the village in 2009. He currently serves as the Chair of the Village Advisory Council on Environmental Conservation. He holds a Masters in Public Administration and is currently the Curator of the Trailside Nature Museum at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. He is the President of the Board of the Federated Conservationists of Westchester County and an Overseer at Colby College.

Klein looks to bring his environmental expertise to the comprehensive plan process and is notably interested in environmental issues such as sustainable development and storm water mitigation. 

Mayor Joan Feinstein will preside over her last board meeting this Thursday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. The village will hold a reception for Feinstein at 6:30 p.m., prior to the meeting. Feinstein served as a trustee from 2004 to 2008 and as mayor since 2008. She has also served as a member of the Blind Brook-Rye Union Free Board of Education, the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Rye-Rye Brook-Port Chester Women's Division and the Westchester Women's Cabinet.
