Rye’s Rock Star Reunites with Strangefolk at The Cap

Rye resident Reid Genauer and his band played for an eager crowd this weekend.

Rye resident Reid Genauer played two exciting nights of music with his band Strangefolk at reunion shows at Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre this weekend. Al Scheir, the guitarist from moe., opened for the band both nights with an acoustic set and then joined them later for moe. covers.

Fans who haven’t seen the original Strangefolk play together in more than 10 years sang along to many songs and enjoyed an elaborate projection and light show, a signature of the Capitol Theatre, on Saturday, Nov. 24. Strangefolk is known for its mix of jam, rock and folk music.

Old classmates from the University of Vermont reunited at the shows and reminisced about when Strangefolk was their own rock band on campus. Other younger jam band fans welcomed the opportunity to see one of their favorite groups at The Cap.

On Saturday night, Strangefolk bassist Erik Glockler and guitarist Jon Trafton joined Schnier towards the end of his performance. For Schnier’s closure, the rest of Strangefolk joined him for a cover of The Grateful Dead’s β€œJack Straw.”

Schnier joined the band again at the end of its first set for a moe. classic, β€œMexico,” and stayed on stage with them to end the set with β€œRather Go Fishin.” The performance climaxed during that song, a fan favorite, as the ceiling, stage and every other surface in the theater were covered in different psychedelic projections. Projections were used during other parts of the show as well. (See photos.)
