Two 14-year-old sisters came up with an interesting way to clean Long Island beaches.

Two 14-year-old sisters from Mt. Sinai have organized two "Beach Bucket Brigade" cleanups at Cedar Beach in Mt. Sinai.
Cayla and Iris Rosenhagen planned the two beach cleanup events with the Town of Brookhaven to promote community participation, protecting wildlife and awareness about environmentally friendly practices.
The cleanups will take place Aug. 2 and 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We’re very excited to kick-off our very first Beach Bucket Brigade clean-up," Cayla said. "We’re very appreciative for all the support we’ve received from the town council, community members, and the eco-friendly companies who have generously contributed to the raffle prizes. Looking forward to a great turn-out and a great day coming together to enjoy and clean-up one of Long Island’s beautiful beaches.”
“For as long as I can remember, my sister and I have loved animals and nature," Iris said. "We’re super passionate about protecting the environment and educating others on how they can help. I hope that the Beach Bucket Brigade is a huge success in reaching out to the community and involving all generations. Buckets to borrow for a better tomorrow.”
