92 People Helped After 12 Fire Disasters Across Long Island: American Red Cross

The fires spanned Nassau and Suffolk counties from Oct. 14 to Oct. 28, the agency says.

MINEOLA, NY — Ninety-two people were helped last week after 12 fire disasters across Long Island, the American Red Cross said Tuesday.

The period spanned Oct. 14 to Oct. 28, according to the agency.

It responded to help people affected by the following disasters in Nassau:

  • One household of 13 people after a fire on Seaman Avenue in Freeport on Oct. 19
  • One household of seven people after a fire on Rhodes Lane in West Hempstead on Oct. 20
  • Three households of three people after a fire on Glen Cove Avenue in Glen Cove on Oct. 26
  • One household of two people after a fire on Cadillac Drive in Meadow on Oct. 28


It also responded to help people affected by the following disasters in Suffolk County:

  • Two households of five people after a fire on Carriage Lane in Centereach on Oct. 16.
  • One household of five people after a fire on NY-25 in Mattituck on Oct. 17.
  • One household of five people after a fire on Laurel Avenue in East Islip on Oct. 18.
  • One household of four people after a fire on Washington Avenue in Mastic Beach on Oct. 21.
  • Ten households of 26 people after a fire on Lake Pointe Court in Middle Island on Oct. 22.
  • Two households of two people after a fire on 17 Peach Street in Central Islip on Oct. 24.
  • Ten households of 21 people after a fire on Main Street in Westhampton Beach on Oct. 25.
  • One household of two people after a fire on Williamsburg Way in Yaphank on Oct. 26.

In each instance, the Red Cross Long Island Disaster Action Team provided emergency help, including financial assistance, to meet the families’ immediate needs. The agency also typically provides information packets about recovery resources and guidance, cleanup kits, comfort kits with personal care items, snacks, water, and other items.

Red Cross caseworkers will continue to work with families to connect them with additional resources for long-term recovery needs.
