"In an instant, Ashlee's life was taken, leaving her family and all who loved her heartbroken.": Madeline Michaels on GoFundMe
SELDEN, NY — An online fundraiser is underway for the family of a 19-year-old student who was reportedly struck and killed by an SUV near the campus she attended at SUNY Cobleskill.
Ashlee Reeves died last Saturday after an SUV struck her as she was crossing West Main Street near campus, officials told The Albany Times Union.
Reeves was crossing an unlit crosswalk just before 5 p.m., and she was taken to Albany Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, the Schoharie County Sheriff's office told the outlet.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated, and no charges have been filed, the outlet reported.
A photo published with the fundraiser shows a Christmas wreath featuring a stuffed Hello Kitty and Mickey Mouse dolls have been placed at the site where Reeves was struck.

Patch has reached out to the fundraiser's organizer, Madeline Michaels, a family member.
Michaels described Reeves as a beautiful person who was walking to get dinner when she was "tragically struck by a man driving an SUV."
"In an instant, Ashlee’s life was taken, leaving her family and all who loved her heartbroken," she wrote. "Her parents are now facing the unimaginable pain of losing their daughter, and the entire family is devastated by this sudden loss."
Reeves' parents have missed work since her loss, and now they are preparing for her funeral, according to Michaels.
Reeves' father is Michaels' cousin, whom she grew up with, and she wants to do "whatever she can to support her family "during this incredibly difficult time."
"The funds raised will go directly to Ashlee’s parents to help cover funeral expenses and living costs while they are away from work, giving them space to grieve without the added stress of financial worries," Michaels wrote. "I have never had to start a GoFundMe before, and it’s hard for me to ask for help when I’m usually the one supporting others. But right now, Ashlee’s family needs all the support they can get."
"Please consider donating or sharing this fundraiser to help ease their burden," she continued. "Your kindness and generosity will mean so much to Ashlee’s parents as they navigate this heartbreaking loss."
So far, the fundraiser for Reeves' family has collected nearly $9,000.
