Charges In Shooting Of Man, 21, In Suffolk Last Week: Police

The Coram man was slapped with attempted robbery and assault charges on Tuesday, Suffolk police say.

SELDEN, NY — A Coram man has been charged in connection with an attempted robbery in which he shot a man in Selden last week, Suffolk police said Wednesday.

A 21-year-old man was sitting in the driver's seat of a parked car on Comet Road when a man approached, opened the driver's door, and pointed a gun at the man while demanding his property on July 7 at around 10:40 p.m., according to police.

As the man was getting out of the vehicle, the suspect shot him in the left leg, and after an altercation between the two, the suspect bolted from the scene, police said, adding that the man was treated at an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Following an investigation by detectives, Marcus Hunter was arrested tonight at the Sixth Precinct in Selden on Tuesday.

Hunter, 23, of Coram, was charged with first-degree attempted robbery, second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, as well as third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He was held overnight at the 6th Precinct for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip, on Wednesday.
