Dad Drove Impaired By Drugs, Alcohol With 2 Kids In Car: Police

A father was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol with 2 toddlers in his car, according to Suffolk County police.

HOLBROOK, NY — A Long Island man was arrested after driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol with two children in his vehicle early Thursday morning, according to Suffolk County police.

Police said that a highway patrol officer pulled over a 2009 Nissan around 2:16 a.m. after the vehicle failed to maintain its lane of travel and drove below and above the speed limits on the Long Island Expressway, west of exit 62 in Holbrook.

The officer determined the driver, Rasalaam Jackson, 35, of Port Jefferson Station, was under the influence of alcohol and drugs with his two children, ages 1 and 2, in the vehicle, police said.

Child Protective Services was notified and Jackson was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol, aggravated DWI under Leandra’s Law and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

Jackson will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.
