East Alum Westerhaus Earns Conference Honors

Sachem East alum and Bryant sophomore quarterback Mike Westerhaus was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday.

Westerhaus, a Farmingville native, threw for 106 yards and two touchdowns to help Bryant beat American International, 27-16, on Saturday.

With the Bulldogs trailing, 16-13, in the fourth quarter, Westerhaus engineered a 10-play, 90-yard drive that ended with an 11-yard touchdown pass. This season, Westerhaus has thrown for 300 yards on 25-of-45 passing.

At Sachem East, he was a two-year starter and helped lead the school to its first and only playoff appearance in 2008.
