Police ID Electric Scooter Driver Hospitalized After Crashing Into 2 Cars: Police

A young man operating an electric scooter was seriously injured after striking 2 other vehicles onLong Island on Thursday, police say.

NORTH BELLPORT, NY — A person operating an electric scooter was seriously injured after striking another vehicle in North Bellport on Thursday afternoon, according to Suffolk County police.

Police said Johny Samaniego Zhiminaicela, 20, of Bellport, was operating an electric scooter northbound on Macdonald Avenue when the scooter struck a 2015 Kia Optima at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue. The scooter then struck a 2015 Hyundai Accent traveling eastbound on Atlantic Avenue around 3:14 p.m., police said.

Zhiminaicela was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the Kia, Cheryl Butler, 63, of East Patchogue, the Hyundai's driver, Ever Parada Acevedo, 40, of Central Islip, and a passenger were all uninjured, police said.

The vehicles and electric scooter were impounded for a safety check, police said.
