Federal Building Evacuated On LI After Suspicious Package Found

An immigration services building was evacuated after a suspicious package was found.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Long Island field office was evacuated last week after a suspicious package was found when firefighters responded to a fuel spill call.

The Holtsville Fire Department responded to the federal building in Holtsville for a reported fuel spill, officials said.

According to fire officials, a suspicious package was found in the mail room and the staff was evacuated.

Firefighters, the Suffolk County Police Department, SCPD Emergency Service Unit and SCPD Bomb Unit determined the package was not a threat.

"Mutual aids were on scene for staging in the event of an incident," the department said. "Units operated on scene for approximately two hours before becoming available."
