Girl, 15, Struck, Seriously Hurt By SUV In Long Island: Police

She was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of her injuries, police say.

RONKONKOMA, NY — A 15-year-old Ronkonkoma girl was struck by a Sport Utility-vehicle and seriously hurt while crossing the road on Thursday night, Suffolk police said.

A driver was traveling in a 2018 Honda Civic southbound on Ocean Avenue in Ronkonkoma when it struck the girl as she crossed the road westbound at around 6:13 p.m., police said, adding that she was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver, a 30-year-old Ronkonkoma resident, was also taken to the hospital, but for evaluation, police said.

The Honda was impounded for a safety check, according to police.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the 4th Squad in Smithtown at 631-854-8452.
