Jumbo Elliott Catch Featured in New NFL Book/DVD
"Monday Night Miracle" catch from 2000 honored once again.
John "Jumbo" Elliott never expected to be known for making a remarkable touchdown catch. The larger-than-life lineman was fine smashing his way to fame, winning a Super Bowl with the Giants and being a recognizable figure in the NFL for his size and strength.
Then came the "Monday Night Miracle," in October 2000. Elliott, a Sachem alum from the Class of 1983, caught a touchdown pass from fellow Long Island native Vinny Testaverde to help the Jets beat the Dolphins in a memorable game on Monday Night Football.
That play was selected as one of the greatest comeback victories in NFL history by Joe Garner and Bob Costas in their new book/DVD combo, "100 Yards of Glory: The Greatest Moments in NFL History."

On the DVD, Costas, a Long Island native from Commack, N.Y., mentions that Elliott hails from the Sachem community and they use a photo of Jumbo in his Sachem jersey (supplied by me).
