Late Weekend Long Island Snow Update: How Much To Expect And When

See the latest details on what could be our first snowflakes of the season.

LONG ISLAND, NY — There's still a chance of the first snowflakes of the season falling on Long Island late Sunday night into early Monday, but it's certainly not expected to be a major event.

Besides rain showers Friday morning, the rest of the weekend looks dry, but cold with wind chill temperatures dipping as low as 20 degrees Friday night and Saturday morning.

A low pressure system is expected to pass south and east of the area Sunday night into Monday, with much of the heavier precipitation remaining off shore, the National Weather Service says.

There's currently a 30 percent chance of rain and snow showers early Monday on the island. The precipitation could change to all snow for an hour or so before ending, but no accumulation is expected.

The accuracy rate for a three-day forecast is reportedly 86 percent, but there's still a chance the storm could slow down and strengthen significantly at the last minute Sunday night, Accuweather says. If that happens, there would be a chance of accumulating snow on the island.
