LI Man Choked, 'Repeatedly Kicked' 3 Dogs: Police

LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY – A 56-year-old Long Island man was arrested on animal cruelty charges Friday night, Suffolk Police said.

Police responded to a 911 call reporting animal abuse at 9 Ave. J in Lake Ronkonkoma 8:35 p.m. Upon arrival, police found evidence that Thomas Benjamin choked and repeatedly kicked three dogs, police said.

Sixth Precinct officers, in cooperation with Suffolk County SPCA, charged Benjamin with two counts of animal cruelty under the New York State Agricultural Law.

Town of Brookhaven Animal Control responded and took possession of the dogs.

Benjamin was issued a field appearance ticket and will be arraigned at a later date.
