Long Island Boy, 15, Who Fatally Stabbed Grandma 35 Times, Indicted For Murder: DA
UPDATE: His defense attorney says he will be conducting his "own investigation into what happened and why."
LONG ISLAND, NY — A 15-year-old Long Island boy has been indicted for second-degree murder and attempted murder for his killing his grandmother by stabbing her over 35 times and also stabbing his mother causing her serious injuries, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said Thursday.
“This is an exceptionally tragic case that has devastated a family,” he said. “When a child allegedly turns violent against their own family members, it creates layers of trauma that extend far beyond physical injuries. Our office will pursue justice for the victims of these horrific acts.”
The boy, whose name has been withheld due to his age, faces 15 years to life in prison if convicted of the top count.

His defense attorney, Peter Mayer of Hauppauge, told Patch the "indictment means nothing as far as his presumption of innocence."
"He is still presumed innocent," he said. "I want all the potential jurors in Suffolk County to remember that when they read about this tragic case. We are still in the beginning stages of this case and I will be conducting my own investigation into what happened and why. Everyone should keep an open mind and not rush to judgment here."

On April 7, at around 9:40 p.m., the boy was arguing with his mother when she confronted him about missing classes at school, and his grandmother told her daughter to take his computer away
as a punishment, prosecutors said.
The boy then grabbed a knife and stabbed his grandmother and then turned the knife on his mother, and after she was stabbed, she fell to the ground and played dead, prosecutors said, adding, at that point, the boy turned back to his grandmother and continued to stab her.
The boy's grandmother died at the scene, and his mother was taken to a hospital,
where she is still recovering from her injuries, according to prosecutors.
The boy, who has been remanded during the pendency of his case, is due back in court on May 21.
