Assemb. Michael Fitzpatrick Reelected To NY's 8th AD: Newsday

He garnered 40,978 votes or 68.44 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results from the Suffolk County Board of Elections.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Votes in New York's 8th Assembly District were still being tallied Wednesday, though Newsday has declared Assemb. Michael Fitzpatrick the winner.

Fitzpatrick, a Republican from St. James first elected to office in 2002, was challenged by Democrat Jeanine Aponte, of Hauppauge, in the election.

Suffolk County Board of Elections results as of 10:14 a.m.:

  • Michael Fitzpatrick (Republican, Conservative): 40,978 votes or 68.44 percent of the vote
  • Jeanine Aponte (Democrat): 18,830 votes or 31.45 of the vote

Communities in the 8th Assembly District includes Head of Harbor, Islandia, Nissequogue, Village of the Branch, Brentwood, Commack, Fort Salonga, Hauppauge, Kings Park, Lake Ronkonkoma, Nesconset, Ronkonkoma, Smithtown, and St. James.
