Pedestrian Struck And Killed In Ronkonkoma

He was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police say.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Ronkonkoma last night, Suffolk police said.

Jim Jones was trying to cross Veterans Memorial Highway in the crosswalk at 5th Avenue, when he was struck by a 2013 Honda Civic in the right lane of westbound Veterans Memorial Highway at around 7:11 p.m., according to police.

Jones, 55, of Fall River, Massachusetts, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said, adding that the driver of the Honda, a 64-year-old Smithtown woman, was not hurt.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.
